Introducing scifi-turntablist: SlowPitchSound
Embark on a sonic odyssey with SlowPitchSound, the creative alter ego of the musical virtuoso Cheldon Paterson. Hailing from the vibrant arts scene of Toronto, SlowPitchSound is not just an artist but a boundary-pushing maestro, a mentor, and an intrepid explorer of the auditory realm. With a career spanning over two decades, he has become a luminary, earning accolades for his avant-garde contributions to the tapestry of music.
SlowPitchSound's collaborative spirit transcends genres, weaving together electronic music, opera, jazz, classical harmonies, experimental theatre, and the dance. His artistic voyage knows no borders, as he has dazzled audiences on stages across the globe—from Canada to Australia, USA, United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Taipei.
His self-proclaimed "scifi-turntablism" isn't just a genre; it's an interstellar journey. Rooted in a profound connection to the natural world, outer space, and the dystopian echoes of sci-fi dreams, Cheldon's passion for depth and detail reverberates through his compositions.
Picture turntables as spaceships navigating the celestial expanse, samples as stardust manipulated by a sonic sorcerer, and field recordings as whispers from distant galaxies. SlowPitchSound's musical lexicon is a tapestry of unconventional textures, seamlessly woven together to create an auditory universe that transcends the ordinary.
Performance:
A solo approximately 45 minute audio/visual performance based around themes of nature. The piece is performed using a turntable, looper, drum machine and video camera. During the performance attendants will have a closeup view of my process projected on screen. They will also witness live cinema that includes the use of human made materials manipulated to mimic natural elements like water, insects or trees. The performance is narrated and is suitable for all ages.
My specialty is in turntable experimentations and includes scratching, live composition and live cinema.
Open to collaborate on other projects. Have questions?

SlowPitchSound—is an artist whose music is difficult to define. In an interview with Musicworks contributing editor Sara Constant, he sheds light on the moments that have sculpted his uniquely experimental approach to sound, scratching, and sampling. "Cover story / Musicworks Winter Issue 2022/23"
This is an excerpt of a live improvisation. This point of view is what the audience will see projected on screen for an intimate live action view of SlowPitchSound's process. In this video SlowPitchSound manipulates a Vallue Village found record, loops segments live and adjusts levels on the fly. A master of his craft, dancing with his instruments.
"To marry such a range in sounds smoothly is no small feat, but SlowPitchSound's skill-set incorporate the playfulness of jazz and the world-building of science fiction." - Exclaim!
